Manuscript preparation

The NMJA(??JAHI) offers tailored support for manuscript preparation. This support includes, and is not limited to English language editing, manuscript formatting, figure and table formatting.

Open access

The NMJA is an open-access journal. Submissions to NMJA are subject to an Article Publication Charge (APC) if accepted and published in the journal.Waivers or discounts from APC are available depending on the country or institution of the first author.Invited Review Articles and Letters to the Editor are exempt from the APC. Contact the editorial office for the APC.


Data sharing and data availability

The journal promotes data sharing and availability. During the submission process, you will be able to select an option for data sharing and availability. Ensure you have ethical clearance to share research data.


Personal data

By submitting your manuscript, you give the journal permission to use your personal data such as email address, affiliation and name. This information will only be used for the purpose of your publication.


Funding

All funding sources need to be declared. Where possible, provide grant numbers for given research.


Authorship

The authors listed on the manuscript should have made substantial contributions and endorsed the final version of the manuscript. The manuscript must have an author statement that outlines specific contributions for all authors.


Acknowledgments

Individuals and institutions that have made meaningful support to the research must be acknowledged.  


Use of Copyright material

The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining written permission from third parties for reproduction of copyrighted material.


Title page

The manuscript title page must include the following;

i. A non-abbreviated brief title that identifies the study design

ii. A short running title (less than 50 characters)

iii. Full names of authors and their qualifications

iv. The authors’ institutional affiliations (department, institution, city and country)

v. Corresponding author’s address, email and phone number.


The Main text file

The main text file must include the following;

i. Short title with no abbreviations

ii. Structured abstract (Use this format; Introduction, methods, results and conclusion)

iii. Keywords (maximum of seven)

iv. Main body of manuscript (Use this format; Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and References).

v. Tables should be clear with a title and relevant footnotes. 

vi. Figures meant for online submission and peer review should be uploaded either embedded in the word processing file or separately as low-resolution images (.jpg, .tif, .gif or. eps). For reproduction in the journal, figures need to be submitted as high-resolution .tif files (1200 d.p.i. for line drawings and 400 d.p.i. for colour and half-tone artwork) or high-quality printouts on glossy paper. High-resolution figures need to be submitted to NMJA following acceptance of a manuscript. Please note that the journal may recommend re-drawing figures to maintain consistency.

vii. Supplementary/additional files may be submitted to the journal. These include material that is relevant to your study or paper but is not included in the paper itself.

*The NMJA is a consumer-focused journal. In this regard, authors should include a paragraph after the references that outlines consumer involvement in the research project. The journal also encourages consumers and consumer advocate groups to participate in co-authorship of manuscripts.


Referencing Style

The journal uses Vancouver referencing style.


Peer Review

Upon submission of a manuscript, the editorial office will check to ensure that the manuscript meets journal requirements. After this, the manuscript will be assessed for quality and relevance by the Editor-In-Chief or designate. If the paper is deemed unsuitable for the journal, the corresponding author will be notified within 48 hours. A manuscript that is of acceptable quality will be sent for peer review (minimum two reviewers).
